Pic of the Day

Pic of the Day: Texture Play

Todays photo is another from Australia. When Leigh and I arrived at the villa he booked for us, we went out out back door to check out the dock or "jetty" and take some cool shots by the water as the tide was low. I was shooting with the Fuji x100s for the first time and came across this boat that had been abandoned by its ocean.

I snapped a shot of it and then looked around inside it and found one of the cross boards, that was used as a seat with some flaking paint. I snapped a shot of it to use as a texture overlay on this very photo. So this is an example of when finding cool textures can come in handy to add to an old dirty photo like this.

Anyways, I loved shooting with that little camera and need to get me one. Hope you enjoy this pic of the day from the fuji x100s

Pic of the Day: I almost forgot

So a few weeks ago it was my wife's birthday. On that day we went out to take some photos of the amazing sunset that was happening that evening. I snapped a few of the world, then snapped a few of her, and we were off to dinner and a movie (Frozen, which was pretty good). In all the excitement and all the work I have had in the weeks since then, I almost forgot about the photos I took that evening.

Luckily I opened up lightroom on my pc today (I usually always edit my photos on the imac) and this folder of 16 photos happened to pop up in front of me. So I did a quick edit on the pc and we have the almost forgotten pic of the day :)

I guess when you are taking tens of thousands of photos every month, sometimes a few good ones are likely to get lost in the chaos.

Hope you Enjoy :)

Pic of the Day: #iPhoneonly

So last night about half way through my ten hour drive to DC, I decided to get off the interstate and find a good composition for the sunset that was coming on.
I drove a ways off the highway and found a hill that I decided I should drive up to get to a lonely hay barn. Upon reaching the top I parked and got out all my gear. Set up the shot and then pushed the button...and nothing happened. It is a little known fact that I am very good at leaving my memory cards at home. All of them. And that's exactly what happened. So I threw all my gear back in my car, angry that I had been standing in 8 degree weather for half an hour for no reason.
Then I started to leave and the sky pumped up the saturation, so I got out and whipped out my phone and snapped a pic.
A wise photographer once said that the best camera is the one you have with you.
So today's pic of the day comes straight from my iPhone. As well as this post itself, also coming from my iPhone (I have never posted from my phone) so although it's not up to the newtography quality you are used to, I still wanted to share my experience and the iPhone photo. I hope you enjoy :)
