Pic of the Day

Playing with the Zion lights

Recently I got to spend a night shooting the night skies at Zion national park. That night was supposed to have been an amazing meteor shower, but that never really showed up. I only counted a handful of shooting stars and decided to turn my attention instead to the milky way.

Our galaxy was shining like I had never seen it before. At those high altitudes, away from any signs of civilization, the Milky Way was a masterpiece in the sky. I shot, then found a new spot, then shot, then found a new spot, then shot... That went on and on for hours. I even set up one camera to do a star trail, which you will see as a future pic of the day.

Anyways, it's getting late and I need to get this pic out today so it still counts. So I hope you enjoy this shot I got as I saw that probably the only car in the park was coming my way at 3am, and I threw down my tripod and set it up just in time to get this shot :)

Hope you Enjoy

Durango to Silverton

There is a place out in the western US where the old narrow gauge railroad still runs on coal and pushes slowly through the mountains. This train was one of the coolest experiences I have had in my life, and one of the best parts of my recent trip out west. If you ever find yourself in Durango, make sure you catch the train to Silverton, you won't regret it.

Hope you enjoy today's pic of the day :)

The Arch

Today's Pic of the Day comes from the final day of my recent motor home road trip around the US.

One thing that makes a photographer happy is when he can get a perfectly symmetrical shot, handheld, that requires no cropping or warping in photoshop :)

Hope you enjoy :)

Glen Canyon Dam

While traveling in an RV for the past two weeks, we have made several unexpected stops along the side of the road. One of which, was a mile before we crossed Glen Canyon Dam. At the bottom of one of the most amazing lakes in the world, Lake Powell, I knew this Dam would offer an amazing photo opp. I pulled the Motor Home off the road and told the fam I would be right back.

After hiking a few hundred yards I realized that I wouldn't be right back. So I called my wife and asked if we were pressed for time before I hiked the rest of the way out to the canyon cliff. She gave the go ahead, and I got the shot.

This was one of the few unexpected stops and photos of the trip thus far but it is by far one of my favorite. I hope you enjoy todays Pic of the Day

Get your Pics on Route 66

Another month, another vacation ;). This month I have been moving houses, so I have been off of the on lines.  A last few days ago I started a two week journey across the states in a very large motor home. I had to learn how to drive this big rig on the fly on day one of our journey, but it didn't prove too difficult. With a bit of good judgement and common sense I have already logged over a thousand miles in the past few days, behind the wheel. Anyhow, we stop at various campgrounds each night, and today's Pic of the Day comes from last nights stop right off old route 66 in Elk City Oklahoma. :)
