Brandy, Barkley, and Baylee

Today I got the chance to get my first real pet session under my belt. Let me tell you it was no easy task, but it was tons of fun. All I knew going in was that there were three dogs and one was a rescue. So I had planned for a pretty intense session.

So I pull up and immediately see a gorgeous golden retriever and a smaller black border collie mix. Then I go inside and get to meet the baby of the house Brandy. She was the inside dog and the most loved of the trio.

I start out taking inside pics of Brandy who was the most calm of the group and realized straight away that I would have my work cut out for me. Now I have been experimenting with some new shooting techniques to get away from some bad habits I had. I quickly realized this was no scenario to try and learn new things. So I abandoned my learning mode and went into full on shoot everything as fast as I can mode. These boogers were everywhere, including all over me loving me to death (I think they knew I was there to make them look like celebrities ;)). I could barely keep up and focusing was an additional trick in itself. I initially wanted to try some shots with off camera flash but immediately realized that wasn't going to work so I just strapped my cameras on and went to shooting.

Now here at Newtography we like to make every client get the full rock star experience (even if they are pets :)). So I have asked Karen Bazzell, the owner of these lovely canines, to tell us a little about their back story, and life, and how they became a part of the family.

"Brandy is a 9 year old golden retriever.  We got her as a puppy.  She was the runt of the litter and was over in the corner by herself.   I couldn't pass up that sweet little girl that was all alone.  Brandy has favorite resting spots in the house where you will find her relaxing, usually with a toy in her mouth.  She wants to be wherever we are and most definitely one of the sweetest dogs we've ever had."

"Barkley is 6 year old golden retriever.  We adopted him from a GR rescue out of Atlanta.  He came from a puppy mill in Missouri of which the owner had agreed to place all of the puppies with the rescue and close up shop.  That little 10 pound puppy has turned into a 115 pound horse.  He is so loving and loyal."

"Baylee we believe is a 4/5 year old border collie/australian shepherd mix.  After the tornados a couple of years ago she was found in our neighborhood.  My daughter saw her and asked if she could bring her some food.  Needless to say food turned into a permanent home.  She sleeps on my daughters bed every night.  We don't know where she came from or her journey prior to finding us but she found her way into our hearts."

These were easily three of the most beautiful and sweet dogs I have ever been around and made it very easy for me to build a passion to follow pet photography as an additional brand of the Newtography line. Thank you so much Karen for letting me make some new furry friends today.
