Battle of White Oak Mountain
Lasts nights "Battle of White Oak Mountain" was the type of game you hate to shoot as a photographer. Since it's my job to focus on getting the shots and not get pulled into the action, close rival games are hard ones to shoot. The stands were packed on both sides of the gridiron. I made sure to bring headphones because games like that usually do a number on my hearing.
Touchdown after touchdown shot up on the scoreboard as the night moved on. I hadn't been to this particular rival game before but I was sure not going to miss another one after being there last night. This matchup was pretty even as the Owls did everything the could to protect their home field against the No.2 ranked class 5A East Hamilton Hurricanes.
Ootlewah had claimed the W in both of the previous meetings. And the Canes were even more motivated this year, since their loss to the Owls last season was the only L in the Canes regular season column. The game was rough and exciting, with the Owls fighting off the never ending assault of the Hurricane offense. It went down to the wire and the Owls managed to hold on to their lead when the final horn rang with a score of 28-26.
Hats off to two great teams. Couldn't have asked for a more exciting friday night. Good luck to both teams who are bound for playoff appearances this season.
